Advent in Miskolc
At the foot of the Bükk Mountains, Miskolc’s most iconic Advent attraction is Europe’s most beautiful Christmas tram. In 2025 it will glide onto the tracks for the 14th time, already boasting eight European championship titles. Step inside and it feels as if you’ve entered a storybook: soft fabrics, colorful characters and festive decorations create a magical atmosphere on a fully operational tram that offers a real travel experience. The fairy-tale atmosphere continues in Lillafüred, where the Santa Claus Train returns once again to bring the magic of Christmas to life. The train carries passengers to the Lillafüred Fairy Realm, where artists and animators from the Miskolc National Theatre present musical and interactive performances inside igloo tents. The park is filled with elves, and Santa Claus himself greets families in person. It’s an easily accessible yet fully immersive festive program that delights children and adults alike, capturing the hearts of visitors year after year. The Santa Claus Train departs from Dorottya Street in Miskolc between 27 November and 14 December 2025. Tickets must be purchased online at mikulasvonat.hu.
Miskolc’s Advent Market fills the city’s main square with the scents and flavors of Christmas. St. Stephen’s Square is also the perfect spot to watch the musical light show of the Avas Lookout Tower every Sunday at 4:45 pm. This year, the square once again transforms with festive lights, including spectacular new 3D installations and a special canopy of lights. These eye-catching displays create a magical atmosphere and an ideal backdrop for holiday photos. The “Advent Glow” lighting experience promises something memorable for visitors of all ages.
The Miskolc Zoo also joins the celebrations with special Advent programs. On 6–7 December, children can take part in a stamp-collecting game that ends with a visit from Santa, while on 27 December the “Animals’ Christmas” feeding sessions allow visitors to watch the animals receive their holiday treats.
After exploring the many programs, relaxing in the thermal pools of the Ellipsum Experience Bath is a welcome break—its warm, Mediterranean atmosphere feels especially inviting during winter. In Miskolctapolca, the bobsled and go-kart tracks remain popular with active visitors, offering easy access and plenty of fun even in the colder months.
