Mining Collection

The exhibition was established upon a private initiative in 2008, as a tribute to Hungarian miners and Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners. The collection was expanded with an open pit exhibition, bringing visitors nearer to real sizes. What may be seen here is only a tiny part of the tools and memories of the thousands of years old mining craft. Exhibitors do not pursue completeness because that would be a too big objective. Brief presentation of a handful of aspects of mining should be enough, since the capacity of the exhibition facility and the available funds mean a hard border for fantasies. The intention of the founders was to indicate that there used to be a flourishing mining culture in Miskolc and in its surroundings, much broader and various than today.
